Nuclear Power: A Threat to Real Climate Action in Maryland
When: Monday, December 9, 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
Where:
Silver Spring Civic Center, Fenton Room
1 Veterans Place
Silver Spring, MD 20910
What: Join Food & Water Action, Nuclear Information and Resource Service, Chesapeake Physicians for Social Responsibility and others for an informative evening about the threat nuclear energy poses to real climate action in Maryland.
Governor Hogan and some members of the General Assembly are pushing to subsidize nuclear energy as renewable. Subsidizing nuclear energy would give your ratepayer money directly to profiteering Exelon, the parent company of BGE and PEPCO.
Dollar for dollar, energy efficiency, wind, and solar are cheaper than continuing to invest in nuclear - not to mention that there is no safe and equitable way to dispose of nuclear waste. Every dollar we spend propping up aging reactors is a dollar we can't spend on the inevitable transition away from nuclear power to a clean, safe, affordable energy economy.
This event will feature a presentation about the current political landscape related to nuclear energy, followed by a Q&A session with an expert panel.
See you there!
